In taking a look at the state of economic development in La Porte County, there is a general sense of optimism that both the Economic Development Corporation of Michigan City and the Greater La Porte Economic Development Corporation share when thinking about the future.
The US Travel Association announced the results of the member-wide vote for the 2017 US Travel Association Officers and At-Large Directors. Speros A. Batistatos, President/CEO of the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority was selected and will serve his first term as an At-Large Director for 2017-2019. Batistatos was one of 19 Board Members that were voted-in and will bring with him 3 decades of experience in the industry, ranging from convention and visitors bureaus to attractions.
After 107 years, the La Porte County Family YMCA still has a lot to celebrate.
They come from throughout the state and across 25 industries. They are the 100 honorees on the 2017 Best Places to Work in Indiana list.
Indiana beer drinkers have hounded and begged retailers and distributors to bring Yuengling beer to Indiana. The brewery has been open since 1829 and has not yet reached Indiana’s shelves or taps...until now.
The vision keeps growing. Five years ago the Franciscan Alliance Group opened the Emergency Center in Chesterton. Then, one year ago, the 24-hour Urgent Care Facility was made available and on Thursday afternoon, that vision expanded once more.

During visits with other communities, other economic development practitioners, and the general public I am often asked, “What is La Porte doing that is leading to so many projects and successes?” It is a question that generates a great deal of pride for me and I hope our community shares in that sentiment. I believe these are the attributes that are central to our success.
The resurgence that La Porte has seen in their downtown area has spurred companies to get involved and seek out available property in which to expand their operations. One such company is RQAW Consulting Engineers and Architects who is beginning the work of renovating their future branch at 724 Lincolnway in La Porte.
