michigan-city-economic-development-corporationMidwest Metal Products is expanding its Michigan City facility through the help of area partners, maintaining the family-owned business locally and creating new jobs.

Midwest Metal Products is the leading manufacturer of rolled angle rings and rolled structural shapes for more than 30 years. Construction of the 27,000-square-foot metal addition begins immediately on their current facility, located at 111 Mariner Drive, Michigan City.

Construction on the expansion is expected to be completed this fall. Midwest Metal Products will be adding 10 new jobs to its current workforce of 27. Hiring for the 10 entry to mid-level jobs will be in winter 2014.

The expansion was approved unanimously by the Michigan City Council at a meeting Tuesday night. “I am excited about the commitment Midwest Metal Products has shown to Michigan City,” said Michigan City Mayor Ron Meer. “It is exciting for Michigan City to have the leading manufacturer of rolled angle rings and rolled structural shapes expand its U.S. headquarters here. I am proud to have Midwest Metal Products call Michigan City home. The City of Michigan City looks forward to the productive partnership we have with Midwest Metal Products as they continue growing and investing in our community.”

Midwest Metal Product’s expansion is credited to the longevity of the business as well as through support from area partners. Economic Development Corporation Michigan City, Indiana (EDCMC) addresses the needs of local businesses with the Business Retention and Expansion Program (BR&E). Through the program, EDCMC and Midwest Metal Products worked together to understand the local business climate, determine future expansion plans with local action, acquaint business executives with programs available through government agencies and provide effective solutions to specific concerns and problems along the way.

“We chose Indiana because we have been located here for over 30 years,” said Geoff Wendt, president of Midwest Metal Products. “Our objective is to manufacture products of the highest quality, provide superior service, product availability and expert technical assistance at the lowest possible cost to our customers.”

EDCMC Executive Director, Clarence Hulse, said, “Our distinct advantages in location, infrastructure, workforce and regulatory environment have put Michigan City, Indiana on the map as a world-class business destination.”

The addition will allow the company to expand its scope of services and products even further in the form of new machinery, computers, more employees and eventually a modern, state of the art manufacturing facility. The entire family is still involved in different facets of the business. There are also many long term employees who have called Midwest Metal Products a second home for ten, twenty or thirty years.

Local companies looking to retain and expand their business may call the EDCMC at (219) 873-1211 for more information. For more information on Midwest Metal Products, visit www.anglerings.com
