“Today is to look back on 2017, some of the things we’ve done, and the great success that we’ve had,” said Rita Mrozinski, the Chamber’s President and CEO. “It’s a time to bring the community together. Everyone’s starting to work together here in La Porte. We’ve grown 46% [event attendance] in one year and I’m proud that the Lt. Governor reached out and wanted to speak today.”

Attributing the spectacular growth to not only working together as a team but having a personal touch and going out and showing and interest in local businesses, Mrozinski is proud of the work she and her team have accomplished in the last year.

With over 150 people in attendance today, ranging from local business owners to local politicians, including Mayor Mark Krentz, and the guest speaker for today, Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch.

Lt. Governor Crouch spoke about how well the state of Indiana has been faring across several metrics, including leading the nation in advanced manufacturing, that the Hoosier state is first in the Midwest and fifth in the country for business environment, and second overall for the cost of doing business.

Being the Crossroads of America, Indiana has the third best infrastructure, and consistently has an unemployment rate that is below the national average.

“These successes cannot be attributed to government alone. It is the hard-working men and women making the sacrifices that have made our state great,” stated Lt. Gov. Crouch.

Lt. Gov. Crouch believes that these successes are because of the bipartisan cooperation of the Indiana General Assembly, which she presides over.

“It’s about enriching people’s lives and putting people first,” said Lt. Gov. Crouch.

Lt. Gov. Crouch spoke about her agenda to take Hoosiers to the next level. In what was termed the ‘5 Pillars’, Lt. Gov. Crouch explained that they planned to strengthen the economy, invest in infrastructure, create a 21st century workforce, continue to fight the drug epidemic, and continue to deliver great government service and taxpayer value.

Lastly, Lt. Gov. Crouch concluded that even with these successes, Hoosiers cannot rest on their laurels.

“We must challenge and dare ourselves to build a better tomorrow for future generations. One that provides even greater opportunities than even ourselves can realize,” said Lt. Gov. Crouch. “What is truly great about Indiana is the people, the hard-working men and women that know that government alone isn’t the answer. Our pioneering spirit is alive and well, as Hoosiers, we’re independent.”

In addition to the Lt. Governor speaking, Mrozinski presented awards for Ambassador of the Year to Lydia Post, and Maggi Spartz for winning the Clem Otolski award. Bill Hackney was awarded for his service as Chairperson of the Board for 2017, and Jessica Romine was awarded Outstanding Board Member of the Year.

With such an impressive cast of earnest men and women, who have a genuine desire to see their community grow and prosper, La Porte is expected to see great things in 2018 and beyond.
