2014 La Porte County Job Seekers Resource WORKshop Set for April 30th

LaPorte-County-Job-Seekers-Resource-WORKshop 2014Through the coordinated effort of the LaPorte County Board of Commissioners, WorkOne, Center of Workforce Innovations, AK Smith Area Career Center, and other local resource agencies; the LaPorte County Office of Economic Development is proud to announce a Job Seeker Resource WORKshop. The Workshop will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the LaPorte County Complex (809 State Street, LaPorte, IN). With the goal of helping LaPorte County residents be “job ready”, this workshop aims to connect those who may be unemployed or underemployed with local resource organizations. This event will be free to the public and will include practical job seeker skills training; panel discussions with local resource organizations and local Human Resources Professionals; and mock interviews with evaluations. 10:00 - Welcome

10:15 - Session #1
“I’ve Got Skills”
This workshop serves as an introduction to the job search process. You will learn how to identify your skills and what information is essential when building an effective resume and completing job applications. (Training provided by WorkOne)

11:15 - Session #2
“Interview Preparation 101”
This workshop will introduce you to the interviewing process. It is an introductory session designed to eliminate the mystery and fear from your mind. Topics covered include; the purpose of the interview, types of interviews commonly used, qualities employers are seeking, and how to prepare for questions. (Training provided by WorkOne)

“Internet Job Search 101”
This hands-on workshop covers internet job searching techniques. Actual job searches based upon your employment interests will be performed. (Training provided by WorkOne)

12:00 - Local Job Seekers Resources Panel Discussion
This panel style discussion will include local resources describing and answering questions about the resources they offer for job seekers and will include WorkOne, Adult and Continuing Education Resources, and Building and Construction Trades Representatives.

12:30 - Lunch (Provided for Participants)

1:00 - Local Human Resources Panel Discussion
This panel style discussion will include local Human Resources Professionals discussing what they are looking for in applicants and answering your questions about the job search process. Participants will get valuable insight into what local companies are looking for in applicants.

1:30 - Mock Interviews (with evaluations)
Participants will be given the opportunity to polish their interview skills with local HR professionals though mock interviews. Interviewers will evaluate participants and give positive and constructive feedback.

2:15 - Closing Remarks

Professional attire strongly recommended.
