JoAnn-Riley-MillerJoAnn Riley Miller, a 39-year pharmacy technician, is Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Michigan City’s February Ambassador of the Month.

The award has been presented by the hospital’s Social and Recognition Committee since 1988 and recognizes employees who exhibit the mission and values of Franciscan Alliance, which include compassion for those in need, respect for life and the dignity of mankind, wellness and prevention of illness, restoration to health and acceptance of death as the final step toward wholeness. Recipients also have demonstrated courtesy, the proper attitude and enthusiasm for their work.

Riley Miller, of Michigan City, was nominated for the award by fellow employees, who said she always gives 100 percent and “never hesitates to help any of her coworkers, covering other shifts when needed.”

Riley Miller said she was shocked and honored to receive the recognition, adding, “I never dreamed I would be given such an honor. Our whole department works together and very hard as a team. I feel fortunate to work with such a great bunch of people. We are all like a big family.”

When she’s not working, Riley Miller enjoys being an aunt to numerous nieces and nephews, traveling, cooking, attending concerts and plays in Chicago and organizing parties.

She said she wanted everyone to know her favorite saying is, “It’s what I live for.”

In recognition of the honor, Riley Miller, as are all Ambassador recipients, was honored with a special billboard display for the month, a privileged parking spot, an Ambassador badge holder, a photo on the Ambassador of the Month wall that displays the previous 12 months’ winners, and $150.
