Sauers Buick GMC’s Troy Protsman is Enthusiastic About Cars

After he started at Sauers Buick GMC on December 4th of 2017, Troy Protsman quickly carved himself a position at the local auto dealer – as one of the bubbliest, most outgoing salespeople they ever hired. And working at Sauers is not the only big change Troy experienced recently, he also moved to South Bend from all the way across Illinois.

Having spent most of his life in the modest city of Macomb, Illinois, getting used to the atmosphere of South Bend is a challenge for the self-described country boy. He moved to the region along with his wife after she found a job in the area. He applied to a number of places, but then landed an interview at Sauers and knew right away that it was the place for him.

“When I came here to apply at Sauers, and I saw La Porte, I was like ‘Wow, I kind of like this feel,’” said Protsman. “It reminds me a lot of Macomb. I had another interview at 1, but I came here at 10 first and Mark offered me a job. I went ‘You know what, I like the feel here better than all that big downtown stuff.’ I really liked the town, and that’s why I chose Sauers.”

A three-year veteran of car sales, Protsman absolutely loves the business. When he is on the floor or out on the lot with customers, his energy and enthusiasm might trick people into think he’s the one buying the car.

“I’m very, very, enthusiastic,” he laughed. “I get more excited sometimes than the customers. I just love selling cars, I get so excited doing it. Sometimes that customer will look at me and ask ‘are you buying the car?’”

He loves cars and is a huge people person who loves to talk, so fitting into the team at Sauers proved easy. With his love for the work and relentless enthusiasm, Protsman certainly impressed the team, but it also went the other way around.

“I like the loyalty that I see from customers here,” said Protsman. “We see so many repeat customers coming in, and there’s so much structure. From service and parts, to cleanup and sales, everything is very, professionally structured. It’s a team environment, everyone helps each other, and there’s a lot of friendship here.”

When not on the job, Protsman loves to be outdoors. He has two main hobbies, bow hunting and boating. As new to the region as he is, learning all the local hotspots for an outdoorsman like him is a big challenge, so he recruited just about everybody in his hunt for a hunting ground.

“I don’t know a single person up here yet who has just a little bit of land for me to put my tree stand up in,” he said. “So I’ve been asking some of my customers and coworkers about that, because it’s just such a thrill getting up close with a deer or turkey.”

For Protsman, every day at Sauers is chance to have fun selling cars, make customers happy, and learn more about his new community. To find more information about Sauers Buick GMC, visit www.sauersautos.com.
