For Mitchell Beane, newly promoted Guest Services Manager at the McDonald’s restaurant on Michigan Boulevard in Michigan City, his job is much more than just a job. It is a career with endless opportunity.
Beane has been with McDonald’s now for six years. He started his career at the Pine Lake location in his hometown of La Porte before transferring to Michigan City, where he currently works at the Michigan Boulevard location. The twenty-three-year-old has been with McDonald’s since high school.
“I was in high school, and my dad told me I had to find a job,” says Mitchell with a laugh. “So, I started working at the McDonald’s on Pine Lake Avenue. I thought it would only be temporary, but after a few months, they asked me if I would be interested in moving up in the company.”
Mitchell took the opportunity and ran with it.
“Training took about a year. They sent me to class on Thursdays, going over various different scenarios that you could run into. I became certified in each area of the store,” says Beane.
Mitchell says that, although it took some dedication, the results were well worth it.
“It felt good,” says Beane of becoming a manager. “It felt really good.”
As Guest Services Manager, Mitchell is responsible for customer satisfaction, hospitality, and more.
“I’m also in charge of making sure that all the staff knows about upcoming specials and promotions,” says Beane. “I’m happy where I’m at right now, but eventually, I would like to have my own store."
That’s an idea that his current store manager, Dexter Eckwood, is more than happy to support. Eckwood understands these goals as he has been with this company since the young age of 14. The moment he could legally work he insisted on working with this team.
“We are all about building people, building results and helping people get where they want to be,” says Eckwood. “If Mitch wants to continue to move up, we’re happy to work with him on that.”
Mitchell feels that his management style is based on a single keyword: consistency.
“Wherever I go, when I go to a new store, and the people there see that I am consistent with what I say and what I do, that helps me to earn their trust and respect,” says Mitchell.
And his manager agrees.
“His consistency helps me do my job,” says Eckwood. “I know exactly what I can expect from Mitch and you can definitely see his touch in different areas in the store. I know that I can give him a task and he can handle it.”
Beane says that there are always opportunities to be had, if you want them.
“There’s always promotions that you can reach for, all you have to do is try.”
McDonald’s is looking to build up the community around them and is currently looking for more team members like Mitchell. They are always hiring for those who want these fantastic career opportunities and want to grow. From health insurance, to the available tuition assistance programs and more, Mitchell is quick to acknowledge the opportunities afforded by working for the fast-food giant.
“Without McDonald’s, I’d be in trouble,” Mitchell admits. “When I was going through some rough times in my personal life, they stuck by me. It’s been a great experience.”
As for the future, he has no plans to ever leave the company.
“I think I’m going to stay here,” says Beane. “I’m going to be here forever.”
