A. K. Smith Center to Hold Weeklong “Manufacturing Camp”

mcasIn an effort to spark interest in Manufacturing, Engineering, Welding, Construction, Energy, and Electronics careers, the LaPorte County Career and Technical Education program is offering a "Manufacturing Camp" this summer for 20 area students who have just completed 7th grade. The camp is open to all students in LaPorte County, however transportation is available only to students from Michigan City Area Schools.

The camp will be based at the A. K. Smith Career Center in Michigan City (817 Lafayette Street). It will be held Monday through Friday, June 23-27 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $25, and scholarship assistance is available. Breakfast and lunch are provided.

Students will have an opportunity to participate in four programs (welding, electronics and energy, construction, and manufacturing) and will be creating hands-on projects in each area. They will also tour a local manufacturing facility and will visit Purdue North Central to learn more about career opportunities.
