On the heels of the announcement of the 70 million dollar Design Innovation Institute in Chicago to create 21st century jobs in Chicagoland, a local institution has introduced a new series of workshops designed to prepare young people for 21st-century careers. This program is developed for students middle and high schools.
The program which is called, "The Mothership Connection (MSC)," exposes students to high-order thinking and collaborative skills. These will be invaluable tools for any career.
In addition, since critical thinking is enhanced when combined with imagination, the workshops also improve perceptive and creative skills. The combination of these tool sets establishes a strong foundation for any modern career path.
What is unique about this series is that participants will engage in two separate sessions each day. One half of the day focuses on technology and the other half creative disciplines. Students will solve technologically challenging problems in the morning and work on poetry, music composition, photography and movie-making in the afternoon. By studying these disciplines, students will gain confidence in both areas.
MSC fosters teamwork. The complicated and sophisticated problems of the future will require the cooperation of many people in employing high order thinking skills.
The cost is $200.00 per week. Some scholarships are available. Students must provide their own lunches.
