LPHS Ag Program Building Steam

LPHS-cornLaPorte High School’s agriculture class fed the students of LPHS it’s very own homegrown corn on Friday, August 21st.

The students planted, harvested, and distributed the corn themselves. It was a process that students enjoyed being a part of, and the community enjoyed watching transpire. All the hard work paid off when Slicer students were able to chow down on the corn.

“The corn was amazing. It was definitely the best part at lunch. I thank every kid who was a part of it,” Mark Haines, sophomore said.

These crops are non GMO crops, which means that its much healthier than store bought corn that have various chemicals and even pesticides in them. More than that, the corn grown by LPHS students will be given to the food shelter, sold to restaurants, and served at school.

The new agriculture program has become a fan favorite for the students at LPHS. From tapping syrup in trees to planting and growing sunflowers and corn, the students’ learning is hands on and engaging.

“FFA is a great program for La Porte; it provides the students with the opportunity that have some interest in agriculture,” junior Ryan Downs said.

This is only the beginning of the great things that LaPorte High School’s agriculture class will do for our community.
