The cadets helped set-up for the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress (ISTEP), coming in at 5:45 am on the morning of the test. For both the four day sectional and the all-day regional Indiana High School Athletic Association basketball tournaments, cadets provided parking assistance for the approximately 15,000 fans who visited MCHS.

Additionally, the cadets provided the Color Guards for each night, as well as the regional double-header the morning of March 11th. Assistance was also provided for the Parent-Teacher Conference on March 15th. Cadets have performed over 3,000 hours of community service since July 1st.

“Our cadets know the importance of helping our school and community,” said Senior Marine Instructor Major Tom McGrath. “They may not obtain the notoriety of athletes and academically superior students, but they perform exceptionally important tasks for the Michigan City family.”

Master Sergeant Jeff Benak, the Marine Instructor, also commented on the dedication of the cadets. “One of the leadership traits we really emphasize is unselfishness. I think our kids demonstrate that trait exceptionally well.”

The MCJROTC will busy throughout March. Their last scheduled military drill competition is at Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne on March 18th. They will also be supporting a dance at Barker Middle School on March 17th, a fundraising dinner at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on March 24th, and a Disabled Veterans of America dinner on March 25th.
