La Lumiere Academic Decathlon Team Places Third in State

La-Lumiere-Academic-Decathlon-Team-Places-Third-in-StateThe La Lumiere Academic Decathlon team traveled to Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana during the weekend of Feb. 9-10 to compete in the Indiana Academic Decathlon state competition, earning a top spot after studying throughout the fall and winter months.

Academic Decathlon competitions test students’ knowledge on a single theme as it pertains to 10 academic subjects. This year’s theme was Africa. La Lumiere’s seven competitors, Molly Caplice, Olivia Dybing, Laney Jensen, Colin O'Rourke, Charlotte Visconsi, Amy Wang, and Eljay Wilcox, collectively earned the school 3rd place in the state, behind Reitz Memorial High School and Andrean High School.

The team also took home 1st in the Interview subject, with several students placing in the top three positions in their divisions or individual subjects. Sophomore Colin O'Rourke placed 3rd in his division, while placing 1st in Interview, 2nd in Art, 2nd in Social Science, and 3rd in Math. Senior Olivia Dybing placed 2nd in Math and 3rd in Interview. Junior Laney Jensen placed 2nd in Interview and 3rd in Essay. Junior Eljay Wilcox placed 2nd in Music and Math.

La Lumiere will compete in Online Nationals in April as a small school representative.
