New Prairie High School Update, March 23, 2018

NPHS-Update-03-23-18_01 Good News in Physics Class
In Physics this week, students have been studying the concepts of Center of Mass and Center of Gravity. They are learning how to change an irregular shaped object into a single point with a mass. This allows them to apply the concepts of momentum, velocity, acceleration, and more to the object. The pictures show a lab students did to test their calculated center of mass.

Mr. Suttor Excited About Most Recent Move
Great News! Room 44 (The new and improved Suttor room) is up and running again! Freshmen and Freshwomen are on task with their Research papers and Flowers For Algernon. The 8th move of my career is definitely my best!

NPHS-Update-03-23-18_02 No Longer Just Plows, Cows, and Sows
The agriculture program at New Prairie High School has been developing over the past two years and is moving students in the direction of careers in agriculture. The courses are very lab based and cover topics from pollution to molecular genetics. The agriculture classroom of today more closely models a modern laboratory than a traditional barn. The applied science is emphasized as we look to the support of the growers who produce our food and fiber. The production aspect of agriculture is promoted and practiced when class participants become members of the National FFA Organization and develop Supervised Agricultural Experiences. These experiences can be based on the production of food and fiber or any of the allied industries. We are excited to see where this program goes next.

NPHS AP Physics Lab
AP Physics is studying waves, oscillations and sound. In preparation for the upcoming AP test the students are creating labs that check differing frequencies, view reflection of waves, find wavelengths in open and closed tubes and compare the speed of waves through different sources. Lots of labs and lots of studying.
