Michigan City High School Wolves Wire September 2018

MC Wolves logoWelcome to the 2018-19 school year! We are off to a great start, and I would like to thank all of our students, teachers, staff and administrative team who have made Michigan City High School the best place to be every day! The administrative team is excited about the year and the places “we will go” academically, athletically and as One Pack!

It has been a pleasure meeting many parents/guardians and community members who have attended Pizza and Painting, Freshman Orientation, Taste of Michigan City and several sporting events. As a parent of two children, a junior and freshman in high school, I know it is difficult to navigate everyone’s schedule. What I would like to encourage is that you stay informed, meaning, speaking with your child about what they are doing at school, using the RDS parent access, and emailing the school with any questions or concerns. We know parents/guardians are critical in student success.

The vision at Michigan City High School is Excellence for Everyone. The goals for MCHS are: 1- Climate and Culture, 2- Incredible Instruction and Curriculum, and 3-Postsecondary plans for all students.

The Wolves Wire, is filled with information regarding the many positive programs and opportunities MCHS students and staff encounter. MCHS has several positives this year: 1-eLearning days will be used during inclement weather, 2- Naviance will be rolled out for all high school students (college and career readiness tool), 3-Impact period on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. This is a time for students to get remediation in their classes, finish homework or work on postsecondary plans. Our partnership with the community has enabled these opportunities for our students and we are thankful. MCHS is continuing the move forward in 21st Century Learning.

Michigan City High School has a great teaching staff, and strong support from our parents and community partners who are committed to each student graduating prepared for college and career readiness. MCHS students are involved in highly technical, rigorous and relative education at the A.K. Smith Career Center. We are excited to announce we have recently partnered with Sullair to create an Air Compressor Academy for students interested in manufacturing right out of high school. The Academy is housed at MCHS, and is available to all students in La Porte County.

I look forward to another fantastic school year, and the continued movement of greatness that is taking place at MCHS! I want everyone to know that our mission is more than just words on paper; we are providing and expecting Excellence for Everyone!

One City! One Pack! Go Wolves!
