Easter Excitement with the La Porte Jaycees!

LaPorte-Jaycees-Easter-Egg-Hunt-oneOn Saturday, the La Porte Jaycees held their annual Easter Egg Hunt at the La Porte County Fairgrounds. Hundreds of kids up to age 12 scrambled across the grounds to try to snag as many candy-filled eggs as they could.

To add to the fun, photos with the Easter Bunny before and after the hunt were available, and the Jaycees held a raffle after the hunt as well.

Ashley Hawkins, chair of the Easter Egg Hunt for the Jaycees, estimated that each year they have about 500 kids come out to the fairgrounds for the hunt. There’s absolutely no cost to participate, and it is open to all members.

“My favorite part is just looking at all the kids and watching how excited they are for the hunt and for Easter,” Hawkins said.

Hawkins stressed the importance of events like this in La Porte. “It’s important because a community event is something everyone can enjoy. There’s no cost to the members of the community, so it is something that people of all income levels and age groups and levels of the community can be a part of.”

For the hundreds of kids who left the fairgrounds with a basketful of hard-earned candy, there was no better way to start off the Easter weekend!
