Michigan City to Spray for Mosquitos

michigan-city-sealMosquito adulticiding (spraying for adult mosquito control) is happening throughout the City between the hours of 11:00pm and 3:00am as weather permits. Vector Control is spraying the outer edges of the City first then works their way into the middle of the City. Here is a tentative schedule for spraying: 6th ward, 4th ward, 3rd ward, 1st ward, 2nd ward & 5th ward. Once these are completed we start over and proceed with the same sequence again as needed until mosquitos are no longer a nuisance. We ask the public to be alert when they see the truck with flashing lights & Spraying ULV machine.

While adulticiding we are still larvaciding low lying areas where there is standing water. The public can help the City by policing their yard and home for these type items:

Get rid of old tires, tin cans, buckets, drums, bottles or any water holding containers
Fill in or drain any low places (puddles, ruts) in yard
Clean gutters periodically
Keep drains, ditches & culverts clean of weeds & trash so water will drain properly
Cover trash containers to keep out rain water
Repair leaky pipes & outside faucets
Empty plastic wading pools at least once a week & store them indoors when not in use
Make sure your backyard pool is properly cared for while on vacation
Fill in tree rot holes & hollow stumps that hold water with sand or concrete
Change water in bird baths & plant pots or drip trays at least once a week
Keep grass cut short & shrubbery well trimmed around the house so adult mosquitoes will not hide there

The City would like to thank all residents for their patience and any active participation in making the community more livable, safe & comfortable.
