Michigan City Refuse Department Annual Spring Clean Up for 2015

michigan-city-sealThe City of Michigan City, Refuse Department will conduct its Annual Spring Clean-Up beginning on March 23, 2015. The Refuse Department is requesting that all residents separate their debris into the following three (3) categories:

1. Brush, limbs, shrubs, yard waste and unpainted concrete. (no black top)
2. Rugs, lumber, furniture, box-springs, mattresses and building materials of all sorts.
3. All tires rimmed or derimmed can be placed out for pick up with appliances such as stoves, refrigerator, air conditioners, water tanks, dehumidifiers etc.

All three (3) categories must be separate from each other

Residents may use curbside or alleys to put out their debris. The city will be divided into three (3) zones, with each zone having two (2) separate weeks when items can be places out for the pick-up. Residents should place items out for pick-up on the same day as your normal refuse pick-up day, but only during the corresponding week for the zone in which they reside.

The Dates for Your Area Pick-Up Will be as Follows:
Zone 1: March 23-27: Repeated April 13-17
Zone 2: March 30-April 3: Repeated April 20-24
Zone 3: April 6-10: Repeated April 27-MAY 1

Compost Information
Additionally, the Refuse Department wants to make you aware that yard waste/compost pick-up will begin Monday, May 4, 2015, and will continue through Friday, November 20, 2015. The Refuse Department will issue more information on the dates for yard waste and compost pick-up soon.

Zone 1
March 23-27 & April 13-17
Zone 1 is bounded by County Line Road on the west, Franklin Street on the east, Kieffer Road/400 N on the south and Lake Michigan on the north.

Zone 2
March 30-April 3 & April 20-24
Zone 2 is bounded by Michigan Boulevard on the north, Kieffer Road/400 N on the south, Roeske Avenue on the east and Franklin Street on the west.

Zone 3
April 6-10 & April 27 - May 1
Zone 3 is bounded by Lake Michigan and Shoreland Drive on the north, Michigan Boulevard on the south and west and Meer Road on the east.

Note: Residents should place items out for pick-up on the same day as your normal refuse pick-up day, but only during the corresponding week for the zone in which they reside.
