Wanted: Train Enthusiast / History Buff Who Knows About the Buried Boiler in Michigan City

Who knows a train enthusiast or history buff who would know about the buried boiler off of Earl Road in Michigan City!

Here’s what we have so far:

  • We found a thread on www.indianarailroads.org,  and believe a commenter could be correct to say that it is not a train, nor is it a boiler from a steam locomotion.
  • From our Facebook friends, we learned that many people from Michigan City have played in, or around the boiler as children, and we know that it is near the old Monon Yard.

But how old is it? Why was it left behind? What was its purpose? Not to sound like Jerry Seinfeld, but 'What's the deal with the buried boiler?'

Nobody seems to know. From the Monon Train Historical Society to the Michigan City Historical Society, the boiler remains a mystery.
