The award recognizes a behavioral health program director who focuses on quality performance and outcomes, according to Jack DeVaney, president of the Dallas-based management organization.

Messing supervises the Adult and Older Adult units and Intensive Outpatient Program at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, and the Centers for Mental Wellness outpatient clinics in Crown Point, East Chicago and St. John.

He is one of three program directors to receive the 2017 award within the Horizon Health network of more than 90 facilities across the country, DeVaney said.

Messing credited Horizon Health, staff and St. Catherine Hospital administration for their support.

“The hospital’s investment in behavioral health services and its new Intensive Outpatient Program is reaching a growing number of the region’s neediest people,” he said. “We are all pulling in the same direction.”

St. Catherine Hospital CEO Leo Correa, Psychiatrist Joseph Fanelli, MD, behavioral health services staff and administrative leaders also joined in congratulating Messing on the award at an April 17 luncheon.

“We appreciate your hard work, dedication and leadership,” said Paula Swenson, chief nursing officer.
