NIPSCO Announces 2017 Environmental Grant Winners

rot1NIPSCO is awarding 15 local nonprofit organizations with grants—totaling $50,000—to help fund restoration and education projects throughout northern Indiana.

This year’s winners include:

  • Causes for International Change
  • Fort Wayne Zoological Society
  • Friends of Potato Creek State Park
  • Indiana Dunes Environmental Learning Center
  • La Porte County Soil & Water Conservation District
  • Little River Wetlands
  • Logan’s Landing Association
  • NICHES Land Trust
  • Porter County Convention, Recreation & Visitor Commission
  • Porter County Parks Foundation
  • Pulaski County Soil & Water Conservation District
  • Save the Dunes Conservation Fund
  • The Child Care Consortium
  • Trees Indiana

In its second year, NIPSCO’s Environmental Grant has donated $100,000, helping 29 projects come to fruition, including Lagoon Outlook Garden in Gary’s Marquette Park, a project that promotes environmental education and outdoor enjoyment for people of all abilities, and Woodland Trails Guide, a training program to develop facilitators for urban forestry programs in 2017.

“It’s astonishing to see what these organizations have accomplished,” said Kelly Carmichael, environmental vice president for NiSource. “This grant is giving us the opportunity to expand our environmental initiatives and programs in our area.”
