Mark Schreiber Assumes Role as Superintendent of La Porte Parks and Recreation Department

La-Porte-ParksOn Friday, La Porte Mayor Blair Milo accepted Brian Niksch’s resignation as Superintendent of the Parks Department and named Mark Schreiber as his immediate replacement.

Schreiber, who has served for the past two years as the Recreation Programming Director, will be stepping into the position immediately but his appointment will be pending Park Board approval.

The Board will discuss the approval at their regularly scheduled meeting Wednesday, June 11.  Prior to serving as the Recreation Director, Schreiber served nine years at the La Porte County Family YMCA as the Senior Program Director. He served on the Park Foundation Board for three years and with the Babe Ruth Youth Baseball program for 15 years in multiple capacities including President and member of the Board of Directors. He is currently the President of the La Porte Kiwanis Club.

“We thank Mr. Niksch for the numerous innovations and advancements that he brought to the La Porte Parks and Recreation Department," said Milo. "While there is always an adjustment period after a transition of leadership, I am confident that with Mr. Schreiber’s leadership and the professionalism, expertise and dedication that is characteristic of every Park Department employee that the beautiful parks and exciting programs that are so engrained in our personality as a community will continue to invite La Porteans and visitors alike to visit and enjoy our outstanding facilities and programs.”
