Summertime is the Perfect Time to Bring Your Bikes on the South Shore Line!

Imagine taking your bike to the Indiana Dunes for the day and biking along their beautiful trails or spending the day in Chicago without having to worry about utilizing expensive transportation throughout the city. These are just two of many realities made possible by the Bikes on Trains program offered by the South Shore Line.

South-Shore-Line-July-Fun-2017_01With the opportunity to bring bicycles on the trains, riders are given the ability to attend more events and visit more places throughout Indiana and Chicago. Expanding your horizons has never been easier!

You can now take your bike and explore South Bend and visit its Riverside and East Bank trails. Off the Dune Park stop, you can enjoy Calumet Trail or the Dunes Kankakee Trail. Hammond boasts the Monon Trail, the Erie Lackawanna Trail and the Wolf Lake Trail. With so many miles of trail near the South Shore Line stations, it’s a great way to see new sights and take in the beauty of an area you may have been overlooking.

The Chicagoland stops provide a number of opportunities as well - explore a variety of areas in Chicago and bike along Lakeshore Drive to enjoy views of Lake Michigan and the city.

The Bikes on Trains program is offered on two morning and evening rush-hour weekday trains as well as on many weekend trains (For a schedule, click here). Trains accommodating bikes are marked with a bike symbol located on the windows of the train, which are equipped with special bike racks that make it possible to safely ride with bicycles. These racks are provided free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis.

Whether you’d like to get in touch with nature or spend your day exploring a city, the South Shore Line’s bike trains enable you to get the most out of your day. The Bikes on Trains program will be available through October, so be sure to get moving this summer, and use this opportunity to explore a new area!
