Heat, Rain Doesn’t Stop GLPCC From a Great Play Day Golf Outing

The Greater La Porte Chamber of Commerce held the 42nd Annual Play Day Golf Outing this Thursday to raise funds for La Porte Chamber programs like business retention and expansion efforts, workshops, networking opportunities, and event. Though the storm raged on and off throughout the event, the participants still had a great time.

Golfers were invited to compete as teams in several contests including a Hole-in-One Contest, the Longest Drive Contest, the Fastest Hole Contest and the Putting Contest. For the Hole-in-One Contest, Sauers Buick-GMC and Pine Ford Lincoln sponsored it with Sauers offering a brand new car right off the lot for the winner.

“It’s a very good networking event because there’s a lot of people here. There’s a lot of time before and after the event for people to kind of get together. And it’s a fun day out of the office even though it’s like 100 degrees.” said Drew Gesse, Director of Marketing and Communication for the Greater La Porte Chamber of Commerce.

Vice President of the La Porte Chamber of Commerce, Rita Mrozinski says that a lot of partnerships within the local community develop out of this event. “It’s brings the community together and the business community and we just have a lot of fun.”

Angie Nelson-Deuitch, Public Affairs Manager, and Diane Thalmann, Economic Development at NIPSCO came out to the outing to enjoy a the game of golf like they do every year at this event and to also support the community.

“It’s important that we reach out to all of our business partners and make sure they know that we are partnering with them in whatever they need.” said Nelson-Deuitch.

“It’s important for us to support our communities and we like to help make our communities better places to live, work and play,” said Thalmann. “We believe it’s important to be good corporate citizens.”

Though the thunder and lighting remained constant throughout the afternoon and the rain soaked the green, even getting some of the golfers, everyone was having a good time and enjoying the fresh air. The golfers were called in a couple times for their safety, but with a few coolers full of beer and some chocolate pudding and fruity jello shots for sale, they seemed to be quite alright with the breaks.
