Nearly 200 Volunteers Recognized for Service to Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana During 2017 Appreciation Luncheon

On Thursday, April 13, nearly 200 volunteers were recognized for their years of service at an appreciation luncheon held at Avalon Manor. Over 40 volunteers were recognized for their annual hours of service above the 100 hour mark. They received a certificate a signed letter of appreciation from the President and bronze lapel pins.

Two volunteers were recognized with the Silver Award for more than 250 hours of service in 2016. Tom Zapchenk and Doris Galinski received a signed letter from the President, a certificate recognizing their achievement and a silver lapel pin.

mow-awards-2017-2OThis appreciation luncheon is the opportunity Meals on Wheels has to recognize the multitude of volunteers for their years of service, their service hours from the year before and the gestures of kindness displayed throughout the year. Pauline Bielak, a Merrillville delivery volunteer, was awarded a bouquet of flowers in recognition of her 40 years of service to Meals on Wheels. Awards were also presented to those volunteers with outstanding penmanship in completing their paper work for Meals on Wheels.
