Southern Shore Art Association Presents: “Art in Good Taste” an Exhibition of Food as Subject

Food as subject is the theme of Southern Shore Art Association’s multimedia exhibition opening on May 2, from 5-8pm in conjunction with First Friday festivities in the Uptown Arts District. The SSAA Gallery offers free hospitality for the opening reception with an opportunity to meet the artists.

A “Bon Appetit” drawing of gift certificates (worth $25 - $50 each) for dining in area restaurants will take place during the opening reception. Participating restaurants will be: Casey’s, New Buffalo – Maxine’s, Michigan City – Michigan Thyme Café, New Buffalo – Miller’s Pizza By The Beach, Michigan City – Lazy Perch, New Buffalo – Panini Panini, Michigan City – Pickle and Turnip (formerly Sahara’s), Michigan City – Rodini’s or Galveston’s, Michigan City and Stop 50 in Michiana Shores.

“Artists have used food, the sustainable and the succulent, as artistic inspiration for hundreds of years", said Susan Block, exhibition curator and Chair. “Whether a painting of a field of waving wheat, a cluster of ripe cherries, a bountiful vegetable garden, pastries on a silver tray, a tomato soup can or a metal sculpture of an ear of corn, molded pasta on a ceramic plate or a photograph of a family dinner, food as subject is enduring and appealing.”

The Southern Shore Art Association is a regional non-profit organization with a showcase gallery expressly for both member and guest artists in a variety of media to exhibit and sell their original work on a monthly basis. SSAA also offers art classes, educational programming and networking for artists.

The Southern Shore Art Association Gallery is located at 724 Franklin in Michigan City, IN. "ART IN GOOD TASTE" will run through Sunday June 1 and Gallery open hours are Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, 12-5pm (CST).
