Featured 2014 Summer Classes at Lubeznik Center for the Arts

2014-summer-classes-registrationLubeznik Center for the Arts has an extraordinary list of classes for the summer. Eight new classes are being offered for the first time- among them a unique collection of classes and workshops for children and adults.

Some of the new visual art offerings include Art Appreciation, taught by Gregg Hertzlieb (curator of the Valparasio University-Brauer Museum of Art), will help students gain a better understanding and appreciation for modern and contemporary art. Abstract Painting, taught by Michael Bill Smith, artist of our current exhibit Ignorance With Wings, will introduce students to the various methodologies of Abstract Art.

Workshops for this season include a blend of new and popular offerings. Fused Glass 1, taught by Twyla Butler, is back by demand. Students learn the fundamentals of glass fusing while creating a coaster and jewelry pieces. This workshop has filled up quickly in the past, register quickly to secure your spot. New workshops this season include Mad Hatting & High Tea with Amanda Joyner. In this workshop students will create a fascinator or top hat while enjoying tea and treats from Bowler Man Confections.

Summer Camps this year will include Culture Club Camp, ages 7 to 13, which introduces students to a variety of art, crafts, music and foods from different cultures. In Famous Artists Camp, ages 7 to 13, students will investigate the works of well-known artists and create their own masterpieces. LCA has a variety of other enjoyable classes for young artists. For former students of Cartooning & Manga 1, LCA introduces, Cartooning & Manga 2, ages 11-17. Where students will practice advanced drawing, inking and lettering techniques plus development of characters, settings and storylines. Pop-Up Art, ages 10-15, another new addition, taught by Nani Murphy, is a three-day workshop where students will learn the basic mechanisms for pop-up structures and how to make pop-up images from simple original drawings.
