“ISP Native Americans Helping Safe Harbor Kids” an Exhibition of Native American Art

SSAA-Collage-01-27-15The “ISP Native Americans Helping Safe Harbor Kids Exhibition” will open First Friday, February 6 from 5-8pm (CST) at the Southern Shore Art Association. A group of about twenty- four inmates who participate in the Native American Circle in the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City, Indiana will be exhibiting their artworks. Proceeds from all sales will be donated to the Safe Harbor Program. A special donation from Mark Marz, who also donates to the ISP Native American Art and Krafts Pilot Program, has made this exhibition possible.

This exceptional exhibition will also include artworks by the Safe Harbor students and a display of the enrichment opportunities offered to the after school participants. The Safe Harbor Program has provided a variety of before and after school programs, such as homework support and special activities, including a recent project involving the national robotics project. Over the past 12years, Safe Harbor has served the Michigan City community without any substantial funding from the Michigan City Area Schools. Families pay a fee for their children, but other resources are necessary.

Join the organizers on Friday, February 6 during the free Opening Reception with refreshments and snacks at the Southern Shore Art Association Gallery from 5-8 pm, during the monthly "First Friday" celebration in Michigan City’s historic Uptown Arts District.

The Exhibition can be viewed through Sunday March 1 at the Southern Shore Art Association Gallery, 724 Franklin Street, Michigan City. January Gallery open hours are Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12-4 pm (CST).
