HERSELF: The Female in Image and Form on Exhibit at Southern Shore Art Association

SSAA-Collage-02-24-15Southern Shore Art Association will present its third annual art exhibition with the theme of “female as subject.” The first such exhibition in 2013, “Fifty Shades of Female,” was cited by the Chicago Tribune as their “Pick of the Week.”

“The female in her infinite variety remains a favorite subject of artists through the centuries in many media,” said Susan Block, Exhibition Chair and SSAA Board member. “She has been depicted as idealized, glamorous, mysterious, playful, fantastic, exotic and erotic. The SSAA has elected to again present this visitor-drawing theme in support of Women's History Month in March.”

The exhibition will open as a part of Michigan City's festive First Friday Artwalk on March 6, 5pm -8pm, and will run until March 29. SSAA members and guest artists, both male and female from the region, will exhibit paintings in diverse media, sculpture and photography in addition to hand sculpted and painted fantasy dolls.

The opening on March 6 will feature a wine and refreshments bar and hors d'oeuvres reception to meet the artists and preview the exhibition. The SSAA Gallery at 724 Franklin Street is open 12noon – 5pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (CT).

The SSAA is a non-profit art organization which exists to further the work of regional artists and craftsman via exhibition and sales in addition to providing art education and special programming.

A free Figure Drawing workshop featuring a live model from the Dunes Art Foundation will be offered by the SSAA on Sunday afternoon, March 15. Further information on the workshop will be available during regular Gallery hours beginning First Friday, March 6.
