Lubeznik Center for the Arts Re-Invents Annual Art Festival for 2016

LAAF logoFor thirty-four years Lubeznik Center for the Arts (LCA) has held its annual festival on the third weekend in August at Michigan City's Washington Park. This year the festival is re-inventing itself for the thirty-fifth year as the Lubeznik Art and Artisan Festival (LAAF). One of the key changes to the festival is bringing it home to LCA's grounds and adding a special preview night with musical entertainment.

LAAF is an eclectic and dynamic celebration of creativity. Exciting changes to the festival include exhibiting work by artists and artisans as well as contemporary art galleries. The festival will introduce additional elements that include artist activations, food from local restaurants, live music, and a local brewery.

All components of the festival will be interwoven throughout LCA's property so festival-goers may come for a particular component but will become immersed in the entire experience - an experience that is firmly anchored in LCA's mission and vision: interweaving visual art, performance, culinary arts, artisans with an edge, and contemporary sensibility.

LAAF will bring the best in emerging contemporary art to Michigan City for the weekend. As part of bringing the festival home LCA is inviting artists that align more closely with the work it exhibits in its galleries year-round. Galleries from Chicago, Northwest Indiana, and Southwest Michigan have been invited to participate.

LAAF serves as a major fundraiser for LCA with proceeds supporting our exhibitions, programs and educational outreach across the region throughout the year. The Friday night preview, Avant, will be an additional ticketed event and will include live musical entertainment.

LAAF will be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 20 and 21 from 10 am to 5 pm both days. Avant will be on Friday, August 19 as a separate ticketed event that will include a mix of musical acts.
