Tri Kappa Hosting Annual Family Sock Hop Event to be held on February 2 at Civic Auditorium

tri-kappaIt’s time to kick off your shoes, put on your best socks and head to the Sock Hop! On Saturday, February 1 at the La Porte Civic Auditorium, the La Porte Chapter of Tri Kappa will be hosting its annual Family Sock Hop from 5 – 9 p.m.

This event has grown into a wonderful February tradition,” said Michelle Mullins-Land, Tri Kappa member and Co-chair for this year’s Sock Hop. “Our members are excited to once again provide a fun, friendly event that the entire family can enjoy.

Sock Hop tickets are available at Fenker’s Furniture in La Porte (362-3538) or at the door on the night of the event. Costs are adults - $5.00; Students (6-18) - $4.00; Preschool (3-5)- $2.00; and children 2 and under are free. Tables may be reserved in advanced for an additional $20; this does not include ticket price, and tables seat up to 8 people.

Mullins-Land explained that all proceeds from the event will be given back to the community throughout 2013 by Tri Kappa in the form of community projects and organizational grants. Each year the La Porte Chapter donates more than $10,000 to local nonprofits and charitable organizations, which focus on children, community, arts and culture or education. The Family Sock Hop is one of Tri Kappa’s main fundraising projects to support their philanthropic efforts.

Dr. Groovy & The Soul Surgeons will be performing throughout the evening. There will be refreshments and bake sales items on hand for purchase. Adding to the festivities, children can take part in carnival games, dance contests, and costume contests.

We love seeing families coming dressed in their best Sock Hop attire – bringing those trends back to life for this special night. We know the kids are excited to dress up and dance,” said Katie Talbert, Event Co-Chair.

In addition, Tri Kappa is encouraging attendees to bring a new pair of socks, which will be donated to less fortunate families throughout the community.

The Sock Hop itself is just one way our chapter tries to give back to the community, by providing a fun and safe way for families and friends to celebrate a night out. However, our goal is to raise funding and clean socks that we can then send back out into the community to help others,” said Talbert.
