Sidewalk Sales Add to Downtown Activities for the 4th of July Holiday Weekend

La-Porte-4th-ParadeDowntown La Porte transforms into the capital of Northwest Indiana for 4th of July activities with the largest parade in the area coordinated by the La Porte Jaycee’s. With over 115 parade entries, the downtown area becomes home to thousands of visitors starting on Thursday July 4th and spanning the weekend.

Leading up to the parade, which will be starting promptly at 10 a.m. on Thursday, are beer barns with live entertainment hosted by the Jaycee’s held at the La Porte County Fairgrounds the evenings of June 29th, June 30th, July 1st, July 2nd and July 3rd. There will also be a live, free Bluegrass acoustic jam night at Temple News Agency on Jefferson Avenue. Following the parade, visitors will enjoy fireworks held at the fairgrounds and entertainment starting at 6pm.

Friday July 5th, families can enjoy a free downtown movie “Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax” sponsored by Horizon Bank with a free car show starting at 6pm at State and Monroe Streets. The movie begins promptly at dusk, around 8:30pm and includes free popcorn by La Porte Savings Bank and food for sale by B&J’s American Café.

Saturday July 6th, visitors will be treated to a downtown-wide Sidewalk Sale from 10am to 5pm. Businesses participating include Roxy Music, The Close Out Corner, Magic Sports, Rocco’s Classic Gallery, As Time Goes By, The Uptown Shoppes, the Co-Op Shoppes, and women’s clothing store Paparazzi. Saturday will also feature the La Porte Farmers Market from 8am to 1pm in the Monroe Street parking lot and Jazzercise of La Porte will be hosting a free session on the Courthouse Lawn at 9am.
