September’s 2nd Saturday Dog Days Downtown

PugDowntown La Porte will host the 1st Annual Dog Days Downtown for the 2nd Saturday in the month of September, September 14 from 3pm to 7pm. Pet owners and dog fans are welcome to come downtown from 3pm to 7pm with their dogs, stroll the downtown shops, dine al fresco and visit rescues and dog vendors on Rescue Avenue, taking place on Michigan Avenue that evening downtown.

Over 10 area rescues, veterinary hospitals, shelters and pet product providers will be taking part in Rescue Avenue on Michigan Avenue. All Creatures Features Animal Hospital will be offering microchipping that afternoon as well. La Porte City Police will be on-hand selling t-shirts to help support their K-9 Unit. Many downtown businesses will have fun activities for the dogs and humans alike, including Karahtess on Indiana Avenue and Rocco’s Classic Gallery on Lincolnway featuring a sidewalk sale with pet-inspired merchandise.

Other downtown businesses that are participating in 2nd Saturday will also have treats available for dogs. Antique Junction on Lincolnway is hosting Bark-a-Thon now leading up to the event, in which they have the only drop off collection box for donations of needed supplies to the La Porte County Animal Shelter. People dropping off goods will double their chances to win a raffle that will take place on September’s 2nd Saturday, as well as free digital pet photographs in Antique Junction’s vintage photobooth will be available that evening.

Engstrom’s Jewelers downtown will have customizable dog tags for sale, a sidewalk sale, and showcasing their Watch Dog program, in which part of the proceeds from watch battery replacements are given to Northwest Indiana Death Row Dogs.
