The Maple City Pub Crawl Was a Celebration of Life and La Porte

Friends old and new from all over Northwest Indiana braved the chilly weather and took to the streets of La Porte for an evening of good food and drink, good music, and good fun at the second annual Maple City Pub Crawl.

Local bars and eateries opened their doors at 5:00 p.m. to offer crawlers a chance to come and experience all the unique food and drink options the city had to offer.

For some, the crawl was a chance to try the various options of food at special “crawlers rates.” For others, it was a chance to have a few drinks on a calm and cool Saturday and relax. But for many, it was chance to experience all that the vibrant downtown of La Porte had to offer.

“I just moved here, and read about the event. I thought it would be cool to come and check out the town,” said one reveler, dashing off to catch up with her friends at Trattoria Enzo, a participating restaurant.

Dean White, owner of Etropal (La Porte spelled backwards), felt the crawl had a significant meaning as well to business owners Downtown. He saw it as a chance to show off La Porte’s fun loving spirit and love of the community; a chance to really sell La Porte and its commitment to building a great downtown, together.

“I have been in La Porte for over 25 years now,” White said. “What Etropal represents here in Downtown La Porte is really just a celebration of life.”

And really, that was what the Maple City Pub Crawl was all about: a celebration of life.

“It’s a community happy hour,” said Downtown La Porte Director, Thaddeus Cutler. “It’s a great chance to reconnect and run into friends you may not normally get to see.”

And that happened tonight, at another successful Maple City Pub Crawl.

Set to a background of live music setting the mood in many of the establishments, old friends connected and new friendships were made. People from all over The Region shared a drink, a laugh, and a toast to good times in the City of La Porte.

Of note, if you took part in the Chief Potawatomi “selfie contest” tonight, please be sure to send your entries to Cutler@lpchamber.com. The winner will be chosen on Tuesday, with the prize being four tickets to “La Porte Day” at the South Bend Cubs’ game.
