“Lend Me a Tenor” Playing at Footlight Theatre in June 2015

Lend-Me-a-Tenor-Footlight-2015You’ll giggle until your sides ache at Footlight Theatre’s latest production, the perennial favorite slapstick comedy “Lend Me A Tenor,” playing June 12-14 and 18-21.

“People will love this show, because hardly a moment goes by that there isn't a laugh,” said Director Alice Dickey. “We've all put in a lot of hard work bringing the script to life.”

Set in 1934, “Lend Me A Tenor” follows Tito Morelli (George Maslankowski), the world famous tenor, who has been booked to perform Otello at the Cleveland Opera Company. After accidentally receiving a double dose of tranquilizers and drinking too much wine, Tito passes out and is believed to be dead by Max (Aram Arden), the nervous assistant to the opera's company manager Saunders (David Mikolajczyk). Fearing all is lost, and dreading having to return the ticket sales money if they are forced to cancel, Saunders comes up with a plan and enlists Max to help him out of his bind. A series of incidents involving mistaken identities, misunderstandings, and multiple slamming doors sets a chain reaction in motion and hilarity ensues.

Also in the cast are Hillary Havlin, Kathy Chase, Amy O’Brien, Katy Gartland and Alexander Bonner. “This cast is just phenomenal. Everyone in the show is a stage veteran, some of them having done theater for decades,” Dickey said.

Ken Ludwig’s “Lend Me A Tenor” is one of the most popular farces to ever take the stage. The play took Broadway by storm in 1989, receiving nine Tony Award nominations, including one for Best Play.

“I really, truly encourage everyone to come see this show. I have never laughed as much at a production as I have during rehearsals for this,” Dickey said. “With the troubles and turmoil that everyone goes through in daily life, what better medicine can you take than a good laugh?
