A Season at the Movies: Sci-Fi, Action & Adventure

movie-music-that-you-loveOn Saturday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m., the La Porte Civic Auditorium is the location for a dynamic concert featuring the music of memorable soundtracks from award winning, adventure-filled movies. Programming that suits the tastes of all generations; quality vocal performers and a guitar featured in the middle of a full orchestra is the trademark of the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra's pops performance. The audience will be swept across the solar system, through mythological times and back to the future again.

At the May Pops concert, appropriately titled "Sci-Fi, Action & Adventure" the orchestra will have some '"Shining Stars" to accentuate the music. To cover the James Bond enthusiasts, 2010 Hoosier Star winner Nanda Danitscheck will sing Skyfall. Nanda has sung frequently with the orchestra; her musical abilities are also enjoyed in the area when she performs in the group Nickel Dime and acts in various theatrical productions. Chorus Director Becky Osborn has assembled the Illumination Chorus to sing in various capacities with the orchestra. This is the joyful group of singers that was founded in order to accentuate with La Porte's orchestra performances. The energy, enthusiasm and intricate multi-part vocals continue to amaze audiences.

Maestro Bauman has a knack for creating an entertaining and engaging program that suits listeners of all tastes. He has chosen movies that travel in time and have stood the test of time for the viewers: soaring to unknown planets with Star Trek and X-Files; a Tribute to John Williams with Star Wars, Jaws, Superman, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones and E.T; and adventure blockbusters such as Fantastic 4, Independence Day, Jurassic Park, The Mummy Returns, Phantom Menace and Pirates of the Caribbean. With the live orchestra, you won't need any 3-D glasses for this show!

This concert is made possible once again through support from the Robert F. Hiler Family Foundation. This family has demonstrated their support for this orchestra as a major sponsor of the April Pops concert for over 25 years. Additional funding for the guest artists is from Dr. & Mrs. Charles F. Hagenow, Centier Bank, La Porte Herald Argus, Michigan City News Dispatch and WIMS 1420 AM.
