This weekend a lights festival, dance marathon, military skills competition, Alice in Wonderland, poker run, festival of trees, 39 Steps, holiday wine tasting, concerts, and a benefit are all on tap for a fun weekend in Northwest Indiana!

The Winter Lights displays at Sunset Hill Farm County Park have become one of the first signs that the holidays have arrived. And those lights will turn on for the first time this weekend, with Winter Lights Night kicking off the season on Saturday, November 17. Kids will have the chance to meet Santa Claus, get their faces painted, make crafts, enjoy cookies and other treats, and much more. A student art show and contest will be on display, with everyone getting the chance to vote for their favorite work. Families will also have the chance to take a wagon ride to admire the hundreds of light displays that illuminate the park.
Now & Then: La Porte Symphony Orchestra's 40th Anniversary Music Celebration
Performing music that the symphony has brought to the community over the past 40 years, audience and musician favorites will be featured. A work from the inaugural concert, a newly commissioned 40th Anniversary Overture, an alumni performance opportunity and a premier performance of the Symphony's repertoire are unveiled in a concert that celebrates the past and looks toward the future.
Military Skills Competition to Showase JROTC Talent
The Michigan City High School Marine Corps Junior ROTC will be hosting a military skills competition at Elston Middle School on Saturday, November 17. 12 schools from Indiana and Illinois will compete in marksmanship, physical fitness, academics, personnel inspection and military drill.
Valparaiso High School Drama Club Presents ALICE IN WONDERLAND
Empowering yourself to dream, to speak your will, to be adventurous and sometimes just be plain silly, is all apart of the Valparaiso High School Drama Club's production of ALICE IN WONDERLAND! The set is colorful, the costumes creative, the show is full of fun and adventure!
Hold 'Em Hustle to Benefit Portage Athletics
Always wanted to do a poker run but don't own a motorcycle? Put on your running shoes - here is your chance to participate for a great cause! The run will start and finish at Portage High School and will include a 5K with 5 obstacles incorporated along the route. As you race your friends, you will also increase your chances of winning a prize based on the hand you are 'dealt' when you complete each obstacle.
Choc-O-Lots and Festival of Trees
Join the Valparaiso Sunrise Kiwanis and enjoy chocolate samples from local vendors and a live tree auction. All of the money raised goes to helping the community!
Portage High School Thespians to Present The 39 Steps
The 39 Steps is a comedic, fast-paced whodunit based on the Alfred Hitchcock film masterpiece. A riotous blend of virtuoso performances and wildly inventive stagecraft, The 39 Steps amounts to an unforgettable evening of pure pleasure, packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters, an on-stage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers and some good old-fashioned romance!

The members of the Duneland Exchange Club are preparing to host it’s annual holiday wine tasting on Sunday November 18. This event will feature a wide variety of wines and beer which will be available to sample and purchase. Several varieties of delicious hot and cold hors d’oeuvres will be served to complement the beverages that are sure to become favorites.
November at Blue Chip

Victory Christian Hosting Benefit for Karen Utley
Karen Utley was diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma last November. Our desire is for her to focus on getting well, and to help relieve some financial pressure by hosting a benefit on Friday, November 16. The night of the benefit, there will be a spaghetti dinner for a $5 donation. DJ, silent auction, and raffles will round out the event.
