10 Fun Things To Do This Weekend in Northwest Indiana: Brewfest, The Graduate, and Memorial Fundraiser

This weekend a brewfest, theatrical production, texas hold'em event, fitness events, memorial vigil, baseball game, historical program, a celebration benefit, an art exhibit, and more are all on tap for a fun weekend in Northwest Indiana!

The Stardust Event Center at Blue Chip Casino plays host to the third annual Blue Chip Brewfest on April 13. You'll get a chance to sample from the breweries of Four Horsemen Brewing Company, Bells, New Belgium, Greenbush, New Holland, Upland and many, many more.

Classic Story Comes to Chicago Street Theatre Stage
The Graduate tells the story of Benjamin Braddock, a recent college graduate who returns home with no clear idea of what to do with his life. He becomes involved with the wife of his father’s business partner, the iconic Mrs. Robinson character, but soon finds himself falling for her daughter. According to Bird, this production will offer a fresh take on the material, adding that the show will offer a unique experience for both audience members who are familiar with the story, and those who are seeing it for the first time.

Join St. Paul Catholic School in Valparaiso in their annual Texas Hold 'Em Tournament on Friday, April 12. The tournament starts prompty at 7:00 pm. The prize schedule is for a filled tournament. Profits will go to St. Paul Catholic School. Please invite your friends, neighbors, and relatives!

The founder of Girls on the Run® International will speak at a special event at Valparaiso University on April 12, 2013. Barker, a four-time Hawaii Ironman triathlete, launched Girls on the Run® in 1996 in Charlotte, NC. Today the 501c3 non-profit organization serves girls through more than 200 councils in the United States and Canada.

"Fitness Friday" is Back!
The first Fitness Friday of 2013 will take place this Friday, April 12th, with a new starting time of 5:15pm on Michigan Avenue in front of the YMCA. The Fitness Friday program was started last year as an opportunity to participate in a weekly 5K walk/run in downtown La Porte.

Jade Sleaford passed away at the age of 17 on April 14, 2012. A Memorial Fundraiser will be held in her honor and the proceeds will go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. From April 8, 2013 to April 14, 2014 the Portage 16 IMAX will be participating in the fundraiser. On Sunday, April 14, will be the Year Memorial Candle Light Vigil to celebrate Jade's life.

Westville High School is proud to announce an additional game to the 2013 baseball schedule that will be played at the Gary RailCats Stadium. The Blackhawks will host Hammond Academy in a 7:30 p.m. game on Friday April 12th.

"Hoosiers in the Movies" Program
On Saturday, April 13 at 1P.M. in the meeting room of the La Porte County Historical Society Museum, Bruce Johnson, Historical Society Board Member will give a visual and biographical presentation on some of the people from our state who became famous in the movies. You will be surprised to learn about a few La Porte County residents who had successful careers in the movies, too!

The students of the children's art classes at the Chesterton Art Center will celebrate a year of wonderful projects with the "Outside of the Box" Exhibit at the Chesterton Art Center. The exhibit will feature work from children ages 3-16 in a variety of mediums.
