10 Fun Things to do This Weekend in Northwest Indiana: Pee Wee Prom, Ronny Cox Live, La Porte Little Theatre Play


Each week we will be bringing you 10 fun things to do in Northwest Indiana over the weekend, so you are never without something to do! This weekend we have a Pee Wee Prom, Ronny Cox Live at the Lubeznik Center, a play at the La Porte Little Theatre, and more are all on tap for a fun weekend in Northwest Indiana!

The Home and Lifestyle Show at the Porter County Expo Center will help you enjoy your home again. Beginning on Friday March 7 and running through Sunday March 9, the Home and Lifestyle Show will be offering home improvement, remodeling and home purchasing ideas. This is your opportunity to meet the people that provide the goods and services that make your home beautiful in one great location.

Portage Book Sale

Friends Preview Night will be Wednesday, March 5th 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Current members of Friends are eligible to visit book sale and purchase items; new memberships for the Friends are accepted this evening as well.

Look What's Happening at the Portage YMCA - PEE WEE PROM

This Daddy/Daughter and Mommy/Son event will be sure to delight the entire family. Fri, March 7 at 6-8 pm. Our "Wizard of Oz" magical evening will include a night of dancing along with delectable finger foods and beverages. Dress-up or semi-casual attire. Purchase tickets at the Y from through Mar 7. $15/couple, $7 additional person. After Mar 3, tickets will be $20/couple.

Coming in February, Memorial Opera House presents Cole Porter's ANYTHING GOES! What's more fun than an ocean liner full of tap dancing chorines, gangsters, nightclub singers and young lovers? We can't think of anything either! Madcap antics aboard an ocean liner bound from New York to London.

La Porte Little Theatre Presents "Over the River and Through the Woods"

La Porte Little Theatre will present "Over the River and Through the Woods" by Joe Di Petro. Directing this performance is Bonnie Quigley. "Over the River and Through the Woods" is a wonderful, sweet, and funny show about Italian grandparents and their grandson in Hoboken, NJ. The set is beautifully constructed and positioned to make audiences feel as if they were visiting their Grandparent's living room. Local talented actors in the cast include Patrick Watterson, Christine Wiegand, Robert Richter, Noel Carlson, Nancy Snyder, and Eliza Briskey. Opening Night is set for March 7 at 7:30. Other performances will be March 8,9,14,15,16.

Getting tired of your typical 5k? Let us throw a monkey wrench in your race! Monkey Wrench Madness hopes to provide fun and challenging obstacle course races. Each race will be approximately 3 miles in distance and will provide obstacles of varying degree and difficulty.

Wednesday, April 9 at 7p.m. (Doors opening at 6:30 p.m.) Lubeznik Center for the Arts in cooperation with Purdue University North Central Department of English and Modern Languages presents singer/songwriter Ronny Cox. Tickets can be purchased at LCA, over the phone at 219.874.4900, or online at www.lubeznikcenter.org. Ticket prices are $15 for LCA members, $20 for non-members. Seating is limited.

{nwindiana}Re-enactors to Present Living History Demonstrations{/nwindiana}

The South Shore Civil War Memorial Trail's exhibit, "Region United, Nation Divided: Following Lincoln," will feature living history demonstrations on March 8-9 and March 22-23 as well as April 12-13 and April 26-27. Re-enactors from the 20th Indiana Infantry Company B will be present for the demonstrations at the Indiana Welcome Center from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Lubeznik Center for the Arts will hold an opening reception for its new exhibits What is Left Unspoken, conceptual mixed media works by artists Doug Fogelson and Barbara Hashimoto (Hyndman Gallery); and, Embroidered Archetypes by local artist Laurel Izard (Brincka-Cross and Northview second floor galleries). The opening reception will feature the LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra Children's Choir directed by Matt Nelson. The choir consists of 2nd - 5th graders who will perform selections from classical to pop. Refreshments will be served.

We've got spirit, yes we do! It is time to start preparing for the 17th Annual Saint Paul Spirit Run 5K Race and Non-Competitive Walk. Each year over 400 runners and walkers brave the unknown elements to participate in the St. Paul Catholic School Spirit Run. This year we are inviting you and your family to join us.
