With some warmer temperatures forecast to finally appear this weekend, it is the perfect opportunity to get out and finally feel some spring sunshine! April 13-15: Rampage at the Portage 16 IMAX - Portage, IN

April 13: Moonlight and Magnolias Opening Night Party - Valparaiso, IN
It’s 1939 and Hollywood is all abuzz! Legendary producer David O. Selznick has shut down production of his new epic, Gone with the Wind, a film adaptation of Margaret Mitchell’s novel. The screenplay just isn’t working so the Hollywood mogul who is being hounded by the film’s stars and gossip reporters, enlists the help of famed screenwriter, Ben Hecht and pulls the formidable director, Victor Fleming off the set of The Wizard of Oz to fix it. For the next five days, locked in a room on a diet of bananas and peanuts, it will be up to these three men to fashion the screenplay for one of the greatest motion pictures ever made. Based on actual events, this tale of desperation and genius makes for an engaging and hysterical night of entertainment!

Wehling and McGill Galleries - Each year, the Brauer Museum of Art is proud to host an exhibition of works produced by student artists in Valparaiso University’s studio classes. This exhibition offers the Brauer Museum the opportunity to display creative and thought-provoking works, while allowing Valpo art students the opportunity to showcase their talents and inspirations!

Continuing a long tradition, the woodcarvers show, in cooperation with Portage Parks, is back! 

April 14:  Michigan City Public Library and Concerned Citizens for Syrian Refugees of NW IN Presentation - Michigan City, IN
The Michigan City Public Library and Concerned Citizens for Syrian Refugees of NW IN (CCSR) will host a presentation on the Syrian refugee crisis by Dr. Monica Lorimer on Saturday, April 14, 1-3 p.m. at the Michigan City Public Library. There will be a reception afterward. Dr. Lorimer, a volunteer with the Syrian-American Medical Society, will speak about her work in Jordan, near the Syrian Border last November. Notre Dame Parish in Michigan City helped to sponsor this trip. Her presentation will include video updates on relief efforts by SAMS and other humanitarian groups, and reports on the Syrian refugee crisis by CCSR.

April 14: READ La Porte County Tutor Training - La Porte, IN
READ La Porte County, Inc. is hosting a tutor training on Saturday, April 14 from 10:00-2:00 in Meeting Room B at La Porte County Public Library, 904 Indiana Avenue, La Porte. The morning will center on tutoring English speaking adults in reading. There will be a break for a complimentary lunch at noon. At 1:00, tutoring adults who grew up speaking a language other than English will be covered! 

April 14: 911 Slugfest 2018 - Hammond, IN
The 911 Slugfest is an amateur boxing competition between Indiana's finest police officers and bravest firefighters. All benefits go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation! 

April 14: Hammond Spring Indoor Garage Sale - Hammond, IN
Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. and Hammond Parks & Recreation are pleased to bring you the first Indoor Garage Sale of the spring on Saturday, April 14th from 10am until 3pm at the Jean Shepherd Community Center, 3031 J.F. Mahoney Drive. Come and turn an unwanted treasure into a prized possession! Booths will feature a variety of items from which to choose. Admission is free and concessions will be available for purchase! 

April 15: PNW and Michigan City Public Library Present Screening of, “The Glass Castle" - Michigan City, IN
The 2017 film, “The Glass Castle”, will be presented at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 15 at the Michigan City Library, 100 E. Fourth St., Michigan City, through a collaboration between the Purdue University Northwest Odyssey Arts and Cultural Events Series and the Michigan City Public Library. The screening is free and open to the public!
