A La Porte County Life in the Spotlight: Michelle Sager

michelle-sagerMichelle Sager has proven to be a dedicated mother, determined volunteer, and a caring member of the La Porte County community. Volunteering in the La Porte Community School system has helped her raise her children and influence the people around her.

After being born and raised in Aurora, Illinois, Sager met her husband Kent. Once they got married, the two moved to Wheeling, Illinois. Shortly after, in 1992 they moved again to Portage, Indiana because of Kent's job.

In 1996, Michelle gave birth to twins Daniel and LeeAnn Sager. After moving once again to La Porte in 1999 to a house more suitable for their family's size, Sager began working at Building Blocks Preschool.

When her children started going to Kingsbury Elementary School, Sager volunteered in the classroom twice a week for six years. She then volunteered with the PTSA for three years at Kesling Middle School while her children went there. Once Daniel and LeeAnn got to La Porte High School, Sager volunteered with the marching band for four years.

"I have made hats for a lot of the kids in Marching Band so they can keep warm on those cool evenings when they are practicing late after school. I love to see people wearing the items I've made," said Sager.

Sager is currently employed at St. Paul's Preschool. She said she has been working with preschoolers for 10 years and enjoys watching them grow and learn.

"My favorite thing about La Porte is that I've made great friends in the community," said Sager.

Michelle says that her biggest accomplishment is raising her children to be the wonderful people they are.

"I have taught them that service to the community is an important part of life. I learned this from my parents who were very active in the church community where I grew up. I'm just paying it forward," said Sager.
