Behind a person, stands all of their knowledge, principles and accomplishments. The impact a single person has on their community can be tremendous. The impression they leave can be felt by hundreds, if not thousands. Blue Chip Casino’s Assistant General Manager, Jack Elia, has made many life-changing decisions in his past. Fortunately for him, they have all worked in his favor.
Within minutes of meeting Elia, you will feel the warmth of his smile radiate across a room. His strong work ethic and welcoming character creates his dynamic personality, setting him apart from other people.
“Do it now. Whatever it is, just get it done. Don’t wait to do your job and don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today. I am the Boston guy that likes to get the job done,” Elia said.
He has been employed at Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City since March of 2006.
Elia was the Food and Beverage Director prior to becoming Assistant General Manager. In his current position, he is in charge of the daily operations that pertain to the hotel, food and beverage, facilities, marine operations, transportation and valet services.
“I’ve grown immensely here, and Boyd [Gaming] has given me the opportunity to grow with the company. The team we have here is great, and so are the customers. It is fun being in the entertainment business. There is something new to learn every day,” Elia said.
Elia is broadening his familiarity with each aspect of the business and is currently in the process of learning more about the gaming side of things.
He believes in serving the area in which he lives and works, and follows his credo by being an active member in several groups that help others.
Elia is on the Michigan City Community Enrichment Corporation Board, on the Executive Board of The Greater Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce and is also a Board Member of United Way La Porte County.
“By being involved with these groups, you meet some really great people. The people you meet can become your new friends, and I think that making connections is what it is really all about,” Elia said.
Although his impression on the community runs deep, he hopes to make the biggest impression on his children.
“I think being a good parent to two dynamite kids is my biggest accomplishment in life. I have seen my two children work their way through high school and college, and I am extremely proud of them. Watching them grow from boys to men is fun to watch and very rewarding,” Elia said.
Both sons, James and Nick, graduated from college earlier this month.
Elia works hard every day to keep his children, his wife of 27 years, Margaret, and his dachshund, happy, healthy and cared for.
“I believe in the importance of honesty and integrity. I strive to be the best father and husband I can be. I want to enjoy life and want my family to be as happy as they can be, also,” Elia said.
