A La Porte County Life in the Spotlight: Pat Landers

Pat Landers, owner of Midwest Video Communications, was born and raised in Michigan City where he attended school. He is a lifelong resident of Michigan City. He is married to his wife Dawn, and has one daughter.

Landers developed an interest for photography at an early age, and in his early twenties he started photographing races at US 30 Drag Strip. His love of photography opened the door to a career in videography. He worked at Video Tech and MCTV as a camera operator, editor and producer.

“I did commercial television for a number of years, including wedding videos, industrial videos, and live television broadcasts,” he said.

He now owns his own business, Midwest Video Communications, which focuses on full service video production and specializes in industrial, commercial, and event documentation videos, as well as film, photography, and audio transfers. He is also doing an internship with a local photographer, in which he is learning various techniques in professional portraits, commercial products, and location photography as well as all aspects of photo editing.

In addition to running his own business with a multitude of services, he enjoys taking photographs along the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan at Washington Park Beach, especially during sunset.

Pat-Landers-02 “This is what I have been doing for a long time. Facebook has been instrumental in promoting my photography. I have been able to showcase some of my talents there,” he said. “Each time I go out on a shoot, I have the opportunity of learning something new.”

Landers is very dedicated to getting new beach photos and tries to go out and shoot as many sunsets as he can, if time permits.

When photographing nature and landscape it generally requires little editing, he said, but when it comes to professional portrait photography, it becomes much more complex. In addition to making sure the lighting is correct, most photographers like Landers, will do additional editing to their portrait photography. Just tweaks here and there to accomplish the flawless picture-perfect look for the customer.

“Every time I go out and shoot nature, I get something different. Some of my favorites are when we have storms rolling in and there are waves crashing over the lighthouse, or when we have lightning storms in the spring and summer,” he said. “It is impressive, fun to watch, and fun to capture.”

Outside of running Midwest Video Communications and catching as many sunset photos as possible, Landers enjoys spending time with his family, especially his two grandsons. He loves hockey, drag racing, live concerts, and traveling with his wife.

He has lived in Michigan City his entire life, but the two things that keep him in Northwest Indiana are his family and of course, the photo-worthy beach.
