Baby-Bottle-Ministry-2014Sandy Lewis (center), a member of Holy Name of Jesus Christ Catholic Church parish in Cedar Lake, presents a $1,575 check to Liz Guzman-Arredondo (right), manager of St. Monica Home, located on the campus of Franciscan St. Margaret Health-Dyer. The donation came from money collected during the church’s Baby Bottle Ministry campaign, in which parishioners filled more than 350 bottles with money, or included checks, to help the cause.

The parish raised approximately $6,300 during the month-long campaign, funds from which also were contributed to three other local charitable programs.

Lewis, who has been involved in raising funds for St. Monica for about 10 years, told Guzman-Arredondo she appreciates the home’s efforts and its pro-life support.

St. Monica, since 1994, has offered a medically sound and emotionally healthy residential environment for women aged 12 to 21 who are awaiting the birth of a child. Residents, whose average length of stay is nine months, learn positive relationships and parenting skills under the guidance of experienced resident advisers, such as Valorie Funchess, left.
