Caregivers for persons with Alzheimer’s disease/dementia are invited to attend a caregiver support group, free and open to the public, that meets on the third Saturday of every month at 10 a.m. at the Brentwood at La Porte, 2002 Andrew Avenue in La Porte. The group is sponsored by Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services of Northern Indiana, a not-for-profit agency that offers a variety of free programs and services regarding Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia. The next support group meeting will be held on Saturday, February 15.
This group is now being facilitated by Renee Sexton and Dee Naegele. For the past five years, Sexton has served as the community relations director for Brentwood at La Porte, and she is currently caring for a family member with dementia. Naegele has been a licensed nurse for twenty-seven years, with a passion for helping persons with dementia and their families.
Support groups are free meetings held for family members &/or friends caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia that focus on providing education and support. Group leaders and members provide mutual emotional support, exchange coping skills with one another, and problem-solve together about dealing with dementia.
