Franciscan Alliance Brings Trauma Education to Northwest Indiana

Franciscan-Alliance-brings-trauma-education-to-Northwest-IndianaThe first Franciscan Alliance Northern Indiana Region Trauma Symposium, which included physicians, nurses, emergency medical services personnel and other health care professionals and students from Franciscan Alliance and throughout Northwest Indiana, recently took place before a packed audience in the Marian Education Center at Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Crown Point.

The program was the brainchild of Jennifer Homan, trauma program coordinator for Franciscan St. Anthony Health and Franciscan St. Margaret Health-Dyer. “As hospitals seek trauma designation, they need to provide education on trauma care to health care providers from throughout the region,” she said. The aforementioned hospitals are in the process of seeking a state, Level III trauma designation.

Speakers covered a variety of topics, including the trauma crisis facing the nation, fluid resuscitation, tactical emergency casualty care, tranexamic acid in emergency medical services, and airway management in the trauma victim.
