La Porte County Family YMCA Executive Director Cindy Berchem shared, "We are excited to begin offering programming to the Michigan City community on April 20th. We have been working diligently these past few months to get the building ready to be open to the community. We have also been hiring and training staff. The gyms, pool and some program space are ready to go! We are excited to be bringing quality Y aquatics programming back to Michigan City. We have swim lessons for a variety of ages and will also have set times for lap swimmers and families to enjoy open swim time. We continue to work towards raising the funds needed to open our Wellness Center. Our Capital Campaign Committee has been working tirelessly to raise the dollars needed for the Wellness Center, locker room renovations and preparing of additional program space. We are well underway towards meeting our $750,000 goal. The community support of the Y returning to Michigan City has been tremendous and we look forward to continuing our work to support the diverse needs of the Michigan City community."

We have a special event planned for the evening of April 18th...a Family Night Out! This event will be held from 6:00pm-8:00pm to bring the community together in order to show all that the Y has to offer. The event will be free to current Y members and $15 for non-member families. We will be opening up the pool and gyms for activities and fun for families of all ages. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. Come join us for an evening of fun and fellowship.

The Y is a diverse organization of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Our membership is 21 million strong, and spread across more than 2,700 Y associations nationwide. Since no two communities are exactly alike, no two Ys are exactly alike. We bring men, women and children – just like you – together to nurture the potential of children and teens, improve health and well-being and foster a sense of social responsibility-so everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.

While our programs and facilities are always based on the unique needs and interests of our communities, every Y has one thing in common: our people. The volunteers, staff, members and donors of the Y are all united by a deep commitment to strengthening community.

Join us—we could use someone like you. For more information on our programming or how you can become a part of the Y, contact Bobbi Petru at bpetru@lpymca.org or (219)221-4055. The Y. So much more.
