Tour de La Porte Launches Website and Opens 2017 Event Registration

Event registration is now open for the Tour de La Porte (TdL) being held August 25, 26 and 27, 2017. Tour de La Porte is a bike ride, running and walking event presented by the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte (HFL) to benefit patients with cancer in our community. 100% of the proceeds raised are used to provide direct support to local patients with cancer.

In conjunction with opening registration, HFL unveiled a brand new TdL website at tourdelaporte.org. Take advantage of the website to register for TdL or learn more about the event, the sponsors and committee who help make this event happen and how to get involved as a volunteer.

From walkers to serious runners, there is a run/walk event for everyone! The 5K Trail Run/Walk will take place on Friday, August 25th at 5:30 pm. The event time was selected to allow more people who work during the day on Friday to join in on the event, and the walk portion was added for those who would like to enjoy the local trails at a more leisurely pace.

Saturday, August 26th will be the 5K Run/Walk (7:45 am), 10K Run (7:15 am) and Half Marathon Run (6:30 am). Children up to age 8 can even get in on the fun with the Mini Fun Run (9 am), a 100-meter or 250-meter run depending on the child’s age.

While many events have been added to TdL, distance cycling was the event that started it all and continues to be the largest draw for participants. Taking place on Sunday, August 27th as a wrap to the weekend of events, the cycling event allows riders to choose to ride a distance from 5 to 100 miles. Those who choose to ride 15 miles or more have access to SAG stops along their route, which allow them to break for food, drinks and live entertainment while mingling with volunteers and other cyclists.

All cyclists may begin their ride any time from 6 – 9:30 am, but there will be a special group start for all distances longer than 5 miles. Group start times are strongly encouraged, as cyclists will have a lead vehicle for the first several miles of their ride. This will not only increase their safety, but allow cyclists the opportunity to meet other participants and add to their overall experience.

Participants can choose to register for one, two or three events and those that participate on all three days will receive a special award! Awards will also be given for the top finishers in each age group for all running events.

Registrants can take advantage of early bird pricing from now until July 1. Event prices range from $20-40 for adults and $10-20 for youth (ages 12-17) depending on the event. Children 11 and under can participate in either 5K Run/Walk or the Sunday cycling event at no cost. Plan ahead to take advantage of the early bird pricing to participate in this great event!
