La Porte County Family YMCA and The Intrepid Phoenix Announce Collaboration

La-Porte-YMCA-Intrepid-Phoenix-2017The La Porte County Family YMCA and The Intrepid Phoenix are excited to announce a collaboration to provide physical fitness services to La Porte County residents who are in recovery from drug and alcohol abuse.

The Intrepid Phoenix program launched in mid-2017. This non-profit organization provides a holistic mind and body fitness approach to recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. The program includes yoga, weight/aerobics/core training and nutrition education provided by certified professionals. Participants meet regularly as a group to provide opportunities for fellowship and increased accountability. Program goals include lower relapse rates and higher rates of abstinence, improved physical fitness and improved mental/emotional health.

The La Porte County Family YMCA has been serving the community for 108 years. It currently provides programming at 11 different sites, including Y branches in La Porte, Michigan City and Long Beach. Beginning this month, The Intrepid Phoenix program participants will have complete access to all fitness facilities and group exercise classes at these branches. The Y will also provide space for program-specific meetings and classes as needed.

"At the Y, we work hard to meet the needs of La Porte County residents of all different ages and stages of life," says Cindy Berchem, Y Executive Director. "This often means working with other area businesses and organizations that deliver high quality programs. We are thrilled to welcome The Intrepid Phoenix to the Y and to broaden the population we serve through this collaboration."

"We are extremely excited about our collaboration with The La Porte County Family YMCA!" says Larry Smith, Executive Director of The Intrepid Phoenix. "We're grateful that we will now better serve our participants by offering a full range of YMCA programs along with the fitness facilities. It also expands The Intrepid Phoenix into Michigan City and we can now serve all residents of La Porte County who seek to add fitness to their existing recovery program."

The Intrepid Phoenix program is open to La Porte County residents who are in recovery from drug or alcohol addiction and committed to long-term sobriety. For more information about this program, please contact Larry Smith at (630) 606-1882 or lws0205@hotmail.com.
