Approximately 140 representatives of Northwest Indiana and Central Indiana-area hospitals, home care services and students, attended a first-ever Franciscan Alliance Respiratory Symposium Oct. 16 at Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Crown Point. The program, which was the brainchild of Michael Meska, Franciscan Alliance regional director of respiratory therapy, and had 10 local sponsors, included speakers who addressed such topics as intervention pulmonology, the future of health care, auto servo ventilation for complex sleep apnea, the synchronicity of ventilation, and lung cancer screening, which was presented by pulmonologist Don DuMont, M.D.
Six course credits were available for students who attended the full day; partial credits also were available. Vendors demonstrated the latest equipment. Giveaways, raffle prizes and refreshments were provided. Georgene Paulauski, Franciscan St. Anthony Health manager of respiratory care services, termed the program a success.
