Gwendolyn Cobb, who for 17 years has served as a health unit coordinator in the obstetrics department, is Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Michigan City’s March Ambassador of the Month.
The award has been presented by the hospital’s Social and Recognition Committee since 1988 and recognizes employees who exhibit the mission and values of Franciscan Alliance, which include compassion for those in need, respect for life and the dignity of mankind, wellness and prevention of illness, restoration to health and acceptance of death as the final step toward wholeness. Recipients also have demonstrated courtesy, the proper attitude and enthusiasm for their work.
Cobb, who previously worked in cardiac services, centralized scheduling and admitting for a total of five years, was nominated for the honor by Sister Maria Kolbe, who said Cobb is kind, polite and professional and “treats everyone with respect.”
Asked how she felt about receiving the honor, Cobb replied she was honored and speechless.
“I come from a large family with a strong Christian background. I try to recognize the needs of others, show respect and enjoy life in a positive way,” she said.
Regarding her hospital work, Cobb added, “I take pride and joy in my position as a health unit coordinator and birth certificate registrar. Our department is caring and compassionate to patients, visitors and coworkers. I find pleasure in helping others and the hospital gives me that opportunity.”
Cobb, who resides in Michigan City, has two daughters and four grandchildren. Her hobbies include cooking, shopping, crafts and spending time outdoors.
In recognition of the honor, Cobb, as are all Ambassador recipients, was honored with a special billboard display for the month, a privileged parking spot, an Ambassador badge holder, a photo on the Ambassador of the Month wall that displays the previous 12 months’ winners, $150 cash and an invitation to the annual Service Awards and Recognition Banquet.
